Happy Birthday US Marine Corp!

By Rabeka Vreeland

On November 7, 2018, the Snow Hill High School MCJROTC hosted a birthday ceremony to honor the 243rd birthday of the United States Marine Corps. The MCJROTC instructors, Master Sergeant Meekins and Gunnery Sergeant Towns, watched as their cadet officers First Lieutenant Gentry, Second Lieutenant Heimer and Second Lieutenant Blank commanded the other cadets in honoring the Marine Corps.

This year's guest of honor was Mr. Whitely Charles Quillen Jr. He served from July 23, 1956 until March 15, 1967 receiving awards such as the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Air Medal and two Good Conduct awards. During his service, he was stationed in Lebanon, South Carolina, Okinawa and Vietnam. His quote for his time in the Marines was, "It was a good ride!"

Happy Birthday to the United States Marine Corps!
