Staff, Students, and Parents,
I wanted to extend a warm “THANK YOU” to everyone who has been supporting us at the start of the season. We are beyond excited at the prospect of a successful 2018-19 season.
I want you to know that we cannot do it without the fan support, we need you so keep coming out and cheering loudly.
Varsity Team Update:
We were very excited when we heard that Zyaire Johnson was selected as pre-season 1st Team All-Bayside as well as 1st Team All-Bayside Defense. Congratulations Zyaire!! Jeffrey Ayers and Curtis Blake were also recognized as Honorable Mention All-Bayside.
The varsity team played their first game at home on 12/7 against St. Michael’s High School. Be proud of your team as they executed to perfection and were rewarded with a 102-10 win. Way to go team!! Jeff Ayres was the leading scorer with 16 points; Shaquan Williams had 14 points; X’Zayveighn Holden had 12 points and Zyaire Johnson was the final player in double figures with 10 points. Our 2nd game against JM Bennett High School was a tough 80-57 loss. Zyaire Johnson led the way with 23 points and Shaquan Williams followed with 14 points. On 12/13, unfortunately we took our 2nd loss in overtime 67- 63. Jay Ayers gave us 17 points, followed by Zyaire Johnson’s 10 points. We had Donnie Jenkins, Snow Hill Alumni sit in as the “Honorary Coach”. One might say that we are off to a slow start by only winning 1 out of 3 games, but we played hard and I am optimistic that with continued fan support, we will turn things around very soon.
So keep coming out to see our 5 seniors Zyaire Johnson, Jeffrey Ayers, Curtis Blake, Maurice Hudson and Shamiaz Elsey; our 4 juniors Skylar Blank, Ricky Moore, Cy'yan Anderson and Ira Baine; our 2 sophomores Payton Wallace and Shi'Quan Williams and our sole freshman X'Zayveighn Holden.
Our Seniors did an amazing job of representing their High School and team when they had an opportunity to go to North Carolina to visit 2 colleges. They were welcomed with open arms by University of Mt. Olive and our own Dr. Purvis’ alma mater, Elizabeth City University.
JV Team Update
Coaches’ Cedrick Johnson and Isaiah Thomas have put together quite a team. They have
Teron Lewis, Myles Moore, Allen Wise, Gabriel Cousar, Jayce Freeman, Labryon Pitts, Austin Hicks, Jonathan Brittingham, and Chris Waters.
JV had one game thus far and it was a disappointing, but close loss against JMBennett High School. The score was 44 – 41 and Gabriel Cousar’s 12 points made him our top scorer.
